ONLY STEWARDS
(The Gospel of Thomas) There was a wealthy man who said to himself, “I should fill my storehouses with grain, and then I will be secure.” This was his intention, but that very night he died.
There is a time appointed to enter this earth and a time appointed to leave this earth. No amount of money or good deeds will create more time. Time, even though in and of itself is an illusion, created by man, nothing anyone can do will buy one day longer once the reaper finds the time slot and helps deliver the soul home.
Preparing for old age is good, but living for the sake of the day while being cognizant of old age is better. Saving money for the sake of being a quality steward is good, but not saving money as opposed to frivolity, for the sake of freely giving it away when needed is better.
We are only stewards of possessions in this life. We are not more blessed than another because of one’s financial standing. If you have more money than another it can either be a curse or a blessing. Storing your grain houses for the sake of security is like building a wall around your home with no draw bridge. In an instant, the amount of time you spent hiding your wealth from the world can be wiped away by a war, computer glitch, or a downturn in the economy.
Money, like time, only holds merit because humans agree to continue buying into the illusion of either meaning anything. If you desire happiness, and you possess wealth simultaneously, freely give away some of what you have to those in need of basic resources. If you have more than you need, more than you can spend, and you choose to hoard what has been given to you, you will not find happiness before death.
Happiness doesn’t come from a stacked bank account, multiple homes, fast cars, and jet skis. Security isn’t a byproduct of what you can buy or check on with an app. Happiness, security, true inner peace, these are byproducts of knowing you’re blessed because you can help other people have an easier time moving through life. Money is just money.
Having money is not a bad thing, chasing money over everything is, but only if you value happiness. You cannot buy a true friendship, but you can give away what you have in order to be a true friend. You can’t buy true friends, only acquaintances. You can’t buy security, but once you help another be more secure, you’ll see that giving away security blesses both people.
Storing up riches on earth as opposed to riches in heaven is a concept most don’t understand. The way to store up riches in heaven is to be a passthrough for the gifts of worldly goods while in a body. Riches in heaven refers to the inner treasure found through knowing who and what you are, not by being someone the world would look to only as wealthy and not generous.
No one can buy another day on this earth past their ordained physical expiration.
